Michael Martinez, a 41 year old Miami Springs residents, is alleged to have shot his wife by accident on Sunday night according to Miami Springs Police.
Miami Springs Police Chief, Matthew Castillo, issued the following statement:
Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of S Esplanade Drive in reference to a husband who claimed he accidentally shot his wife in the chest.
Officers arrived and secured the scene by detaining the husband and rendering aid to the wife.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene and airlifted the victim to Ryder Trauma Center, where she was listed in stable condition.
The husband, Michael Martinez, was manipulating a revolver firearm while in the kitchen of the residence when he shot his wife in the chest.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the shooting was accidental. M. Martinez was arrested for culpable negligence resulting in serious bodily harm.
Thanks to the quick response by Miami Springs Police Officers and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, it appears they have saved the life of Martinez’ wife. We are grateful for your professionalism, training, and speed.

- Never point a weapon at anybody
- Keep your finger off the trigger
