The man that was pulled from under the Warren Pony Swing Bridge at Curtiss Parkway earlier today was arrested by Miami Springs Police. The man, identified as Walter Riesgo, was charged with:
- Battery on Police Officer / Firefighter
- Resisting an officer with violence to his person
- Disorderly conduct / Breach of the peace

According to Miami Springs Police, they responded to the scene after receiving a report of someone in distress in the Miami Canal that separates Miami Springs and Hialeah. MSPD Officers were able to locate the individual who police say, “was swimming from canal bank to canal bank and verbally berating officers.”

As we reported earlier, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene along with members of their dive team. With the additional help, MSPD reported that they were able to corral Riesgo underneath the Warren Pony Swing Bridge at Curtiss Parkway. According to Miami Springs Police, “Riesgo violently resisted officers and refused to identify himself.”

The police were able to eventually identify the individual as Walter Riesgo.  Miami Springs Police described Riesgo as “a violent career criminal with a nationwide fugitive warrant for fentanyl distribution and an active immigration hold.”
