Last Thursday, Miami Springs Middle School hosted its final Promotional Exercises, marking the end of an era filled with tradition, pride, and unforgettable memories.
Among the evening’s most meaningful moments was the presentation of the Eagle Award, a distinguished honor that has been part of the school’s legacy for 71 years. The program included the names of every Eagle Award recipient from 1956 through 2025, culminating in the presentation of the final Eagle Award in the school’s history.

For Principal Mr. Saavedra, the evening was especially meaningful. Having begun his principalship alongside this graduating class three years ago, he reflected on their shared journey, saying, “This class will always hold a special place in my heart, because we came in together, and now in many ways we leave together.”

As Miami Springs Middle closes its doors at the end of this school year, those words resonated deeply with students, families, alumni, and staff. A proud alumnus of the school himself, Mr. Saavedra experienced this historic milestone not only as a principal, but also as a former student whose life was shaped by the very halls he now helps close with dignity and pride.
It was a heartfelt farewell to a school that impacted generations of students, families, and educators. While the doors of Miami Springs Middle may close, its traditions, memories, and legacy will live on through the thousands of Eagles who proudly called it home.
Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. 🦅💙
