According to NBC 6, the Miami-Dade County School Board will finally decide next month whether to close Miami Springs Middle School. Our suspicion is that the vote will just be a formality. Based on the meetings we’ve attended, this all appears to be a done deal.

The closing of Miami Springs Middle School would create a new Miami Springs 6-12 Preparatory Academy at the Miami Springs Senior High Campus. That means kids attending Miami Springs Middle School would transfer to the newly created Miami Springs 6-12 Preparatory Academy.
Watch the community meeting held at Springview Elementary describing the plan:
Bottom line. This appears to be the final days for Miami Springs Middle School as we know it.
What will happen to the Miami Springs Middle School property after it closes? Nothing is certain as of yet. It has been said it might be used for tutoring. It might also be used by the City of Miami Springs Police Department.
We suspect, the school board will lease out parts of the property as a way to generate long term, recurring revenues for the school system. Renters may include the neighboring AIE as well as the Miami Springs Police Department, but that’s yet to be determined.
