We’re proud to announce that Jorge Calil will succeed Sam Chesser as the Artistic Director at the Pelican Playhouse beginning September 16, 2026.
The next series of Pelican Playhouse performances (Including our Mami Springs Centennial show) will be co-directed by Sam and Jorge, with support from many other Pelicans.
Following the Centennial Show in September, Sam will step aside as Artistic Director, with Jorge assuming those duties. Sam’s “day job” requires him to relocate from South Florida, and Jorge is excited to begin a new era at the Playhouse. Jorge has been an actor, director, and writer at the Playhouse for more than a decade.
Big congratulations to Jorge — and we’ll miss you, Sam!

ONLINE registration is now live for our next workshops. One in-person registration held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 (11 am for Young Pelicans ages 5-9 and 1 pm for main stage actors, ages 9 and older).

Young Pelicans (ages 5-9) from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon.
Mainstage / Centennial show actors (ages 9 and older) from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
SATURDAY, JUNE 6, first day of class for Young Pelicans (11 am – 12 noon)
SATURDAY, JUNE 13, Young Pelican rehearsal; no class for centennial show.
SUNDAY, JUNE 14, class for centennial show, 1 pm.
SATURDAY JUNE 20, class for all.
SUNDAY JUNE 21, song and dance auditions, 1 pm.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23, Young pelican show 2 pm
Miami Springs turns 100. Centennial Show Dates: Six performances, September 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13th. Tickets will go on sale July 4, 2026.
Workshops, rehearsals and performances are held in the Rebeca Sosa Theater located in the Miami Springs Community Center (1401 Westward Drive). Registration Fee: $150.
