Special message from Miami Springs Middle School Principal Chris Saavedra:
Greeting Miami Springs Family,
My name is Chris Saavedra, and I have had the incredible privilege of serving as principal of Miami Springs Middle School for the past three years. Walking these halls again, 35 years after I once did as a student, has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life.
As many of you may have heard, this will be our final school year as Miami Springs Middle School. The District will be merging the middle and high school to create the new Miami Springs 6–12 Preparatory Academy which will be located at Miami Springs Senior High School. While we look ahead, it’s impossible not to feel the weight of what we are closing.

For 71 years, Miami Springs Middle School has been part of this beautiful city. During my time as principal, I’ve had the joy of reconnecting with so many alumni who share the same memories of lockers, classrooms, teachers, friendships, and milestones that shaped us. Those memories matter and they deserve to be preserved.
We’ve discovered that our collection of yearbooks, dating back to the school’s opening in 1955, is incomplete. The list pictured below shows the missing volumes highlighted in yellow. It would mean so much to complete this collection and donate it to the Miami Springs Historical Society, ensuring that future generations can look back and see what parents, grandparents, and great grandparents looked like back in Middle/Junior High School. Along with the yearbooks, we’ve uncovered other priceless artifacts that we are committed to preserving.

Few communities can say their elementary, middle, and high schools all proudly carry the city’s name. As both principal and resident of Miami Springs, it is deeply bittersweet to know that in just a few months, one chapter of that tradition will come to an end.
If you have one of the missing yearbooks or any Miami Springs Middle/Junior High memorabilia and would be willing to donate it to the cause, please contact the school at 305-888-6457.
Thank you for helping us honor and preserve the history of Miami Springs Middle/Junior High School.
