An alert hotel employee in Miami Springs, Florida contacted the Miami Springs Police Department after observing a White Ford Mustang with a racing stripe had just parked in the hotel parking lot, and the driver of the vehicle checked into the hotel. This information may seem trivial or insignificant, but it proved to be a critical piece of evidence in solving a series of vehicle burglaries within the city.

Yosvany Toursotolongo, alleged vehicle burglary subject

The day before, the hotel employee had been advised by Miami Springs Police Department detectives that they were looking for a White Ford Mustang which had been involved in vehicle burglaries within the city. When MSPD officers arrived at the hotel, located in the 900 block of South Royal Poinciana Blvd, they found the vehicle and checked the license plate. The vehicle had been reported as stolen from another local hotel in Miami Springs.

The hotel employee informed the officers of the hotel room number and said they wanted the person out of the hotel. Officers responded to the hotel room and met with the alleged suspect, Toursotolongo, who was the only occupant inside the room. A key fob belonging to the Mustang was observed in plain view on the nightstand. Also observed next to the bed was a beige satchel with the handle of a firearm protruding from the bag.

Toursotolongo allegedly advised the bag was his and gave officers permission to search the bag. Inside the satchel, they found numerous pieces of property belonging to a victim from an earlier vehicle burglary.

Toursotolongo was arrested and charged with Grand Theft 3rd Degree/Vehicle, Burglary to an Unoccupied Conveyance, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. These charges are all felonies and can carry severe penalties, including imprisonment
