At Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting, Florida Senator and Miami Springs resident, Bryan Avila, gave the city an update on current initiatives in the Florida Senate.
They included:
- Year round disaster preparedness
- Elimination of sales tax on select disaster preparation items
- No sales tax on state park admissions
- Proposed elimination of the business rent tax
- Spectrum Alert – Like an Amber Alert, but for missing autistic children
- Human Trafficking Awareness – Requires all school personnel to receive human trafficking awareness training.
- Requiring EKG Assessments for student athletes
- New offense for pet abandonment during a storm or hurricane
- Since 2014, Avila has been able to bring back nearly $15 Million back to Miami Springs
- In the last 2 years, that includes:
- $1 Million for Forrest Drive
- $150,000 for the War Memorial on Curtiss Parkway
- 2023:Â $750,000 for the Senior Meals Program
- 2024:Â $750,000 for the Senior Meals Program
