Miami Springs Councilman, Victor Vazquez, filed paperwork with Miami-Dade County last week to run for Miami-Dade County Commission District 6.  This is the seat that is currently held by Rebeca Sosa.  State Representative Bryan Avila had filed to run for this seat, but when Manny Diaz, Jr. was appointed to State Education Commissioner, it opened up the opportunity for Bryan Avila to run for State Senate.

With Florida’s “Resign to Run” law, Councilman Victor Vazquez will be required to resign his post (like Mara Zapata did when she ran for County School Board).  Depending on the timing of his resignation will determine if there will be a special election or an appointment by the City Council to fill his current seat.

As for Victor Vazquez’ recent voting record, he was one of the three votes the UTD got to keep their mural.

Kevin Marino Cabrera

With the heavy favorite, Bryan Avila, out of the District 6 Race, the list of candidates jumping into the local District 6 Race continues to grow.  Most notably, former President Donald Trump made the rare endorsement of a local County candidate:

“Kevin Cabrera will be a great member of the Miami-Dade County Commission, representing District 6. In 2020, when I won Florida’s 29 electoral votes by a historic margin, Kevin was my State Director. Kevin is a brave and smart America First Conservative who supports Low Taxes and fewer Regulations on small business, which means more jobs! He is strong on the Second Amendment and will work hard to defend our men and women in Law Enforcement. Kevin wants Secure Borders and will fight for Safe and Secure Elections—the 2020 Election was Rigged and Stolen, and we are getting to the bottom of it—and we can never let it happen again. Kevin Cabrera will represent his community with honor, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” – Donald J. Trump

Mr. Lamas was originally running for Bryan Avila’s State House Seat, but has switched and is now running for Miami-Dade County Commission District 6.

  1. Yea! D Trump lowered taxes for himself and Kevin, but not for me!!! If I were a millionaire I’d certainly vote for him, but I’m not, so I won’t.

  2. Let’s see if the same out of town machine that got him in here can get him in the County.
Can’t say that I will be sorry to see him go.
