The employees at the Miami Springs Starbucks voted 10-3 to unionize.  It’s the first South Florida Starbucks to move towards unionization.

Earlier this month, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced that more salary hikes are coming, but that unionized stores may not benefit from those wage hikes.

In a CNN article, the company said it was investing “$200 Million in wages, equipment, and training.”

Schultz is quoted in the story saying “we do not have the same freedom to make these improvements at locations that have a union or where union organizing is underway…[federal law] prohibits us from promising new wages and benefits at stores involved in union organizing.”
