The NTSB had a full media briefing earlier today regarding yesterday’s plane accident at Miami International Airport where an Amazon Prime airplane overshot the runway and hit multiple vehicles that left 5 dead and multiple others injured.
According to the NTSB, the plane overshot the runway and struck navigational aids (landing lights) and other equipment before impacting a 2012 Ford Econoline passenger van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corporation (according to NTSB, a contract cleaning company for the airlines). The van was traveling inside the airport property on a service road. There were seven people inside the Ford passenger van when it was struck.
After striking the van, the aircraft then hit the perimeter fence and crossed NW 67th Avenue where it impacted a Toyota Corolla Cross. The plane continued through a grassy area and struck another fence before it came to rest near a staging are with Tesla vehicles.
In total, the aircraft traveled 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface of the airport runway or about a quarter of a mile.
