Hurricane Milton restrengthened back to a Category 5 Hurricane with Maximum Sustained winds of 165 MPH according to the National Hurricane Center.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday AND Thursday.  (Listen to the kids saying “YAY!” as mom and dad worry about damages, power outages, and future insurance costs.)

Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens remain under a Tropical Storm Warning.  That means we are expecting Tropical Storm Force Winds in our area.

The good news is that the center of the storm is NOT expected to come our way.  The Hurricane Center is forecasting Milton to hit the west coast of Florida near the Tampa area around 1am Thursday morning.  Nevertheless, the weather will begin deteriorating several hours before landfall as the squalls approach the region.

When will the weather impact Miami Springs?

According to the National Hurricane Center, the earliest we may see Tropical Storm Force Winds in our area is 2pm Wednesday.  The weather will continue to degrade overnight and through Thursday morning.

How much rainfall?

According to the Hurricane Center, rainfall in Miami Springs may not be that bad.  The estimate calls for less than one inch of rain in our area.  We received far more rain this week from the Low Pressure system the last 48 hours.  That said, all you need is a rogue storm cell to dump a ton of rain.  Nevertheless, the National Weather Service is NOT predicting a whole lot of rain from Hurricane Milton in our area.

Will we lose power?

When Helene passed by, there were several intermittent power outages in Miami Springs.  None of them lasted very long as FPL crews got power restored in mere minutes in many cases.  There’s a good possibility of similar cases of power outages, but we’re not expecting complete widespread outages.  At least let’s hope that’s the case.
