Aerial look of Hialeah and Miami Springs – (Photo courtesy Miami Springs Historical Society and Museum.)

1919 aerial photo of dredging the Miami Canal at the Curtiss Bright Ranch between what was to become downtown Hialeah and Miami Springs. Unpaved Palm Ave & NW 54 St(Hialeah Dr) were in existence but no bridges yet. The large cleared area on the right near the bottom was the former location of the Curtiss Flying Field. It was moved in March of 1917.  That area would become part of the Deer Park neighborhood of Hialeah where Glenn Curtiss and James Bright would build their Hialeah homes. The buildings in the center right are on Hialeah Drive (NW 54th Street) & show the headquarters of James Bright’s Dairy Farm. This farm was later moved to Palm Ave around W 28 St. The cleared area to the left of the dredge was to become the location of the turning basin and zoo in Country Club Estates (Miami Springs). The clearing above that one was to become the beginning of The Parkway (Curtiss Parkway).
