Alleged Midnight Mailbox Prowler Arrested

Earlier today we shared the news of the midnight mailbox prowler caught on camera checking out the mailbox of a residence on South Drive near Royal Poinciana Boulevard.  The prowler had been caught on camera doing the same thing on the same day at the same house just last month.

Well, we’re happy to report that Miami Springs Police have arrested Jael Burgos-Ortiz as the suspected midnight mailbox prowler.  Burgos-Ortiz was charged with:

• Masked Burglary of an occupied dwelling – Two Counts
• Possession of a controlled substance:  Crystal Meth
• Unlawful possession of 5 or more identities
• Possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia
• Petit Theft
• Identity theft
• Unlawful possession of a stolen debit / credit card
• Grand theft of a dwelling curtilage
• Structural damage to a dwelling during burglary > $1,000

Miami Springs resident shared the following Ring Camera video of a strange man (attempting to obscure his face) checking the mail at this home on South Drive near Royal Poinciana Boulevard.

The scary thing is that this is the second time of what appears to be the same man doing the same thing on the same day of the month.  You see, last month, we captured the man checking the mail on the 17th of January at about 1am.

This month, the man did the same thing on the 17th of the month at about 12:49 am.  In both cases, the man attempts to obscure his face with clothing.  However, unlike last month where the man runs away, this month he nonchalantly walks up to the mailbox and then walks away.

As we reported last month, the Miami Springs resident had shared the following statement:

“I woke around 1 am to an alert on my ring doorbell. The camera captured a masked person hoping to steal mail from my empty mailbox. I called the Miami Springs police immediately! Within minutes, they were at my door! If you recognize this person, please contact the Miami Springs Police Department.”

In addition to his alleged incidents in Miami Springs, Burgos-Ortiz is also suspected of being the mailbox prowler caught on camera on February 16, 2026 at 12:52am at a Westchester residence.  (See post from @OnlyInDade below:)

The good news is, the alleged culprit was caught and is now in custody.

Great job by the Miami Springs Police in catching this alleged repeat offender.
