The Miami Springs City Council voted unanimously to add two additional intersections to its automated red light camera enforcement.  The two additional intersections are as follows:

  • 36th Street and East Drive
  • 36th Street and Sheridan Drive

According to a memo from the Miami Springs Police Department, a study of traffic incidents at the intersection of NW 36th Street and East Drive from January 1, 2023 to May 31, 2025 revealed the following:

  • 28 total traffic crashes
  • 5 crashes that resulted in injury
  • 2 hit-and-run traffic crashes
  • 193 traffic stops conducted in the area
  • 2 traffic-related arrests
  • 2 documented traffic hazards
  • 12 disabled vehicles requiring response

According to the same memo, it revealed the following concerns about the intersection at NW 36th Street and Sheridan Drive:

    • Total citations issued: 4,334 (westbound traffic currently enforced)
  • From January 1, 2023 to July 10, 2025:
    • 20 total traffic crashes
    • 5 crashes that resulted in injury
    • 3 hit-and-run traffic crashes
    • 229 traffic stops conducted in the area
    • 4 traffic-related arrests
    • 2 traffic hazards
    • 5 disabled vehicles

We applaud the city’s efforts to make our streets safer.  

Question:  Can we use traffic cameras to enforce the intersection blockers at Hook Square?
