Folks, we are all neighbors.  Thank God we live in a free country where everyone can have their own opinion.  We’re not NAZI Germany where everyone had to salute Heil Hitler.  We’re not Communist Cuba where no one is allowed to publicly speak against the communist regime.  We live in a country where it has become a sport to criticize and make fun of politicians in power.

Our freedom means we are not a single minded society.  We are a society that welcomes different points of views.  More importantly, locally, we are neighbors.  We care about our community.  We care about our children.  We care about our way of life.

It saddens me to see neighbors stealing and/or vandalizing political signs from other neighbors.  Sure.  Some of the people doing this are kids.  But it’s important that we teach our kids that if we value freedom of speech we have to allow people we don’t agree with the right to express themselves.

Recently, a resident posted the following image of their Biden sign cut in half.  Come on folks.  We’re better than this.

We received the following video from a resident in the area of Springs Avenue showing what appears to be 3 young women stealing a Trump sign.  I know they look young, but it appears they know what they are doing is wrong.  As soon as they have the sign in possession, they take off running.

To remind everyone, in addition to not being neighborly, stealing or defacing a sign is a crime.

Someone mentioned that the trio in the video above may be the same in the video below:

And then, of course, there was the incident.

As you can see, a blue, 4-door Honda Civic stops in front of the home.  The young lady runs out to the Trump sign, removes it from the ground, and then runs back to the car for the getaway.

Maybe she really wanted a Trump sign.  Maybe it was part of a treasure hunt.  Maybe it’s a political protest.  In all cases, it’s illegal.  It’s illegal to steal someone else’s property.  Period.  End of story.

This is still the United States of America and everyone has a right to express their political points of view under the 1st amendment of the U.S. Constitution.  You don’t have to agree with it.  You don’t have to like it.  You don’t have to pay attention to it.  But, you can’t take that right away from someone else.

Again, it’s clear they know what they are doing is wrong.  You can see she’s running back to the car after having the sign in possession.

To her credit, she did save the bushes from catching COVID-19.  She was wearing a mask.

If you see someone stealing or defacing a political sign (or any crime for that matter) call the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
