As we wrap up the final days of October, Miami Springs residents can look forward to one of autumn’s most welcome traditions: gaining an extra hour of sleep this weekend!
Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

To make sure you don’t show up an hour early for Sunday morning coffee or church services, be sure to turn your manual clocks back one hour before going to sleep on Saturday night (Halloween night). Modern smartphones, smartwatches, and connected electronics will handle the time shift automatically at 2:00 AM, but wall clocks, microwave timers, car radios, and oven displays will need a manual update.

A Perfect Time for a Safety Check 🔋
Public safety officials, including local fire rescue departments, encourage every household to use the “Fall Back” time shift as an automatic prompt to perform vital home safety maintenance:
- Change Alarm Batteries: Replace the backup batteries in all household smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.
- Test Smoke Detectors: Press the test button on each unit to ensure alarms are in proper working order.
- Check Expiration Dates: Replace any smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old.
- Update Emergency Kits: Check expiration dates on canned food, bottled water, and first-aid supplies in household disaster kits.
Shorter Days, Brighter Evenings
While falling back means dusk will arrive earlier in the evening, morning light will come sooner. Be mindful of pedestrians, cyclists, and school children enjoying the neighborhood during early evening hours as darkness sets in earlier.

Enjoy your well-deserved extra hour of rest, Miami Springs!
