The 400 block of Swan Avenue has a new name:  Jake Casiano Drive.  The street was renamed to honor young Jake Casiano.  Jake Casiano was just an 8 year old boy when he was diagnosed with Leukemia.  He fought valiantly, but sadly Jake did not survive the disease.

Jake was the grandson of former Miami Springs Councilwoman, Rosie Buckner.  Jake grew up here in Miami Springs and lived on the 400 block of Swan Avenue with his parents Christopher and Cindy Casiano.

Back in 2018, the Community came out to support young Jake.  He needed blood transfusions.  A blood drive was held immediately at the Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters where local residents and police officers lined up to help Jake.  But the outpouring of love and support didn’t stop there.

Douglas Orr Plumbing pitched in and held a second blood drive at their offices on Flagler drive on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.  The response was so overwhelming that the blood drive remained open hours after they were scheduled to depart.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner, Rebeca Sosa, shared the following message on social media:

It was a special honor to join the City of Miami Springs Mayor Maria Puente Mitchell and the members of the City Council in naming a portion of Swan Ave in remembrance of the life of Jake Casiano, a young child who lost his life after a courageous battle with cancer.
