Longtime Miami Springs resident and champion for FPL underground installations from the alley raised a red flag at Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting.  He’s concerned that the City of Miami Springs may not have signed the MOU or Memorandum of Understanding with Florida Power and Light.  Without an agreement, the project cannot move forward.

What is all this about?

Well, back in September, we reported on how residents were upset that FPL was placing the “Ugly Green Boxes,” also known as the transformers, in the front yards of Miami Springs homes.  Residents were upset that FPL was not taking advantage of our unique alleyways.  Not every community has alleyways.  The overall consensus from residents was to keep our front lawns usable and beautiful and move the green boxes into a cutout within our alleyways.

Then in October, FPL came to an agreement to move forward with the alleyway installations.  This was a big win for Miami Springs residents.

Vizcaino knows that FPL went the extra mile to make this happen for Miami Springs.  The last thing he wants is for the project to fall apart at the last minute due to a snafu with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the city and FPL.

Stay tuned.  As they say, it ain’t over till the power lines are underground in your own backyard.

One more thing.  We want to thank Art Vizcaino for staying on top of this for so many months.
