The Hialeah Thoroughbreds Football Team defeated the Miami Springs Senior High Golden Hawks. Hialeah High took the Mayor’s Cup in one of the oldest rivalries in Miami-Dade County. Final score: Hialeah 21 – Miami Springs 14.
The game went back and forth with Miami Springs striking first in the 1st quarter taking a 7-0 lead.
Hialeah came back in the 2nd quarter and scored a touchdown to tie the game 7 – 7.
Miami Springs answers back in the 2nd quarter to take the lead again. Score 14 – 7.
Hialeah’s special teams returns the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. Tie score: 14 – 14.
Halftime score: 14 – 14.
The third quarter resulted in no score.
Then, in the 4th quarter, Hialeah High picks off a Miami Springs throw for a pick 6 to take their first lead of the night. 21 – 14.
Neither offense scored in the second half.
Final score: Hialeah 21 – Miami Springs 14.
