South Florida PBS just did another great segment on the amazing Springview Elementary Bike Bus.
The term Bike Bus has always thrown me off. For some, it might be confusing. There is no bus. No bus. No van. No gas vehicle. There. I said it.
The first part is correct. There are bikes. Lots and lots of bikes. But no bus.
The kids meet up at the Miami Springs Rec Center before the designated bike to school – ahem – cough cough – “Bike Bus” day.
Once all the kids have gathered, they do a group bike ride from the Miami Springs Rec Center to Springview Elementary.
This all possible thanks to the parents and volunteers who have made this morning bike ride possible. But it’s also thanks to the wonderful community we call Miami Springs.
I mean honestly, can you see kids riding their bikes to school in a group like this in busy Hialeah, Miami, or even Doral?
Miami Springs is uniquely qualified to support young kids riding their bikes to school thanks to our lack of traffic, quiet streets, and family friendly neighborhood.
And then people wonder why so many people want to move into the quiet little oasis we call Miami Springs. There’s no other community in Miami-Dade County quite like Miami Springs that can support this type of activity on an ongoing and recurring basis.
We want to thank all the parents and volunteers that have continued to grow the tradition of riding your bike to school in Miami Springs.
