The tropical deluge over the last couple of days has left Miami Springs soggy and soaked. According to Weather Underground, Miami International Airport (the nearest weather station to Miami Springs) recorded half an inch of rain on Tuesday and another 3.6 inches on Wednesday for a total of over 4 inches of rain in 48 hours.
Typical areas of flooding were underwater including Stafford Park, the AIE Parking Lot, and Forest Drive.
But overall, Miami Springs had less rainfall that some other areas of Miami-Dade County. Weather reports indication 48 hour rainfall amounts near 10 inches in other areas:
- North Miami: 9.8 inches
- Hammocks: 9.7 inches
- Coral Gables: 9.4 inches
- Coconut Grove: 9.4 inches
The concern today is that the ground is already saturated and the rain is not forecast to end. The National Weather Service is predicting another round of heavy rainfall across South Florida today. We could see more flash flooding later today.
Just a reminder. If the road is flooded, turn around. Your car is not a boat. It’s not a submarine. Furthermore, don’t drive in unfamiliar areas where the road is covered with water. You might not be able to see where the road ends and a canal or lake begins. And for goodness sake, turn on your headlights when driving in the rain.
