Miami Springs Cases
As more residents get the vaccine, we continue seeing the number of cases decline. Within our zip code (33166) we saw the number of cases decline with just 51 new cases within the last 7 days. That’s the lowest number since November 2020. In Miami Springs, we estimate we had 28 new cases last week.
Miami-Dade Cases
Miami-Dade County had over 4,000 new cases in the last 7 days. That’s the lowest number of new cases since early November 2020.
New hospitalizations bumped up slightly with 156 new COVID-19 hospital admissions in the last 7 days. Despite the slight increase, new hospitalizations still represent a longer term decrease.
Fatalities have remained at about 63 people per week over the last 3 weeks in Miami-Dade County. The weekly fatalities have stabilized, but we want to see these numbers come down further.
FLORIDA Cases
The State of Florida had under 20,000 new cases of COVID-19 last week. That’s the lowest number since October 2020.
Most importantly, the number of deaths across the state dropped last week to its lowest level in the last 6 months: 331. Can we see that number drop to less than 200 deaths statewide per week? Again, these numbers aren’t great, but far better than where we have been.
Folks, this is a free country. If you want to give yourself the best chance of not catching this disease and not spreading it, get the vaccine. If you don’t want to get the vaccine, that’s fine, but please wear a mask when in public areas indoors.
And if you are older or you have diabetes or you’re overweight or you have something more serious that makes you more vulnerable, for goodness sake, get the vaccine.
Stay safe everybody.
