The Florida Department of Education released the Spring 2022 Florida Standards Assessments (commonly known as FSA) for English Language Arts Grade 3.  So we looked at the four Miami Springs Public Elementary Schools to compare how the third graders performed at our local Miami Springs schools.  Here are the results:

1 – Springview Elementary

Springview Elementary had the highest Mean Scale Score among our local public elementary schools with a score of 316.  Springview also had the highest percentage of students who achieved Level 3 Reading or Higher with 89 percent.  Furthermore, 59 percent of the 3rd graders had an achievement level of 4 (meaning they are likely to excel in the next grade) or 5 (meaning they are highly likely to excel in the next grade).

  • Number of third grade students:  44

  • Percentage of Level 3 or Higher:  89%

2 – Integrated Science and Asian Culture (ISAAC)

ISAAC Elementary was neck and neck with Springview Elementary with an FSA Mean Scale Score of 315.  ISAAC third graders had 86 percent of their students wit a Level 3 (Satisfactory) or higher score.  And 51 percent of the 3rd graders had an achievement level of 4 (meaning they are likely to excel in the next grade) or 5 (meaning they are highly likely to excel in the next grade).

  • Number of third grade students:  43
  • Mean Scale Score:  315
  • Percentage of Level 3 or Higher:  86%
  • Percentage of Level 4 or Higher:  51%
  • Miami-Dade County District Score Ranking:  Tied 6th Highest in County

3 – Academy for International Education Charter (AIE)

AIE Charter School scored a 303 for their 3rd grade English Language Arts.  AIE third graders had 64 percent of their students with a Level 3 (Satisfactory) or higher score.  And 22 percent of the AIE 3rd graders had an achievement level of 4 (meaning they are likely to excel in the next grade) or 5 (meaning they are highly likely to excel in the next grade). AIE also has the largest 3rd grade in Miami Springs with 75 students.

  • Number of third grade students:  75
  • Mean Scale Score:  303
  • Percentage of Level 3 or Higher:  64%
  • Percentage of Level 4 or Higher:  22%
  • Miami-Dade County District Score Ranking:  Tied 18th Highest in County

4 – Miami Springs Elementary School

Miami Springs Elementary School scored a 299 for their 3rd grade English Language Arts Mean Scale Score.  Miami Springs Elementary third graders had 46 percent of their students with a Level 3 (Satisfactory) or higher score.  And 21 percent of the Miami Springs Elementary 3rd graders had an achievement level of 4 (meaning they are likely to excel in the next grade) or 5 (meaning they are highly likely to excel in the next grade). Miami Springs Elementary has the second largest 3rd grade class with 52 students.

  • Number of third grade students:  52
  • Mean Scale Score:  299
  • Percentage of Level 3 or Higher:  46%
  • Percentage of Level 4 or Higher:  21%
  • Miami-Dade County District Score Ranking:  Tied 22nd Highest in County

Achievement Levels

The Achievement Level definitions that apply to FSA English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments are provided below, and the cut scores that define the levels are provided on page 3. Achievement Levels are referred to as Performance Levels on FSA student reports.
