Early 1925 photo of the home of Hugh H. Kendall at 22 Pinecrest Drive. The home was constructed in 1924 and was one of the first homes built in Miami Springs. Kendall, a retired grocer from the Finger Lakes area of New York was a thirty-third degree, sovereign grand inspector general of the northern jurisdiction of the United States, one of the highest Masons in the world. He was a family friend of Glenn Curtiss. In 1928 pioneer aviator John Rogerson married Hugh’s daughter Barbara Kendall. That same year Rogerson joined Pan American Airways as one of Pan Am’s earliest pilots. The Rogerson’s acquired the house and lived there until their deaths in 1983 and 1993. The home was historically designated but fell into disrepair and was demolished c2008.

Why did the city/historical society allow the house to get to a condition of unrepair?
I don’t understand the city. If the house was historically designated but fell into disrepair and demolished in c2008. Does the city not have an obligation to preserve it?
