Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez warmed up to the idea of moving the new jail expansion to a location that is not TGK after vehement opposition from Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz. As Mayor Gimenez said, “we hear you loud and clear.” He did indicate that it would be more expensive to move the jail expansion to another location.
At the end the County moved forward and approved the report with a caveat to build the jail expansion as far away from residents as possible. But, that can change very quickly. Thus, it’s important for residents to continue to communicate with all the county commissioners and the county mayor.
