On Saturday morning, a group of residents didn’t sleep in after a fun Friday at the Festival. Nope. They were ready to run the Miami Springs River Cities Festival 5k for the 7am shotgun start. Dozens of residents of all ages participated in the race including many father son pairs and mother daughter pairs. It’s another example of the family friendly nature of the events promoted within our community.
We want to give a special shot out to the Miami Springs Recreation Director, Omar Luna. He pushed to make this event a reality. Now it’s become part of the tradition. Thank you Omar and the entire team at the Miami Springs Recreation Department for putting this event together. Everyone loves it!
Of course, we also need to thank the Miami Springs Police Department for keeping the roads safe and ensuring vehicles weren’t interfering with the racers. As always, they did an outstanding job.
The weather was gorgeous on Saturday. Maybe even a little too gorgeous. Because it got hot and steamy fast! Nevertheless, the famous tree lined streets of Miami Springs provided much needed shade from the sweltering sun for all the participants.
