The Historic Preservation Board has produced some initial design concepts to upgrade the Entry Signage of the various entries to the City of Miami Springs.  The first concept includes two adobe columns with a wood style beam that connects the two.  A wooden sign that reads:
WELCOME TO
MIAMI SPRINGS
“TREE CITY USA”
Incorporated 1926.

The second concept presented at Monday’s City Council Meeting includes a more elevated sign with a base and an L-Shaped column.  It also features a wood style beam with the main sign hanging from the beam.  The sign reads:
WELCOME TO MIAMI SPRINGS
FOUNDED 1926
BY AVIATION PIONEER GLENN CURTISS

The concept below also incorporates the city seal within the column.

Obviously, these are very rough concepts that have been Photoshopped to give an idea of what the signs may look like.  It’s a great way to start thinking of what new signs may look like.

This author loves the idea of adding more signage and incorporating more of the Pueblo Revival style throughout the city as it was originally conceived by Glenn Curtiss.  Of the two concepts, we really love the second concept for a couple of reasons.  It’s bigger / grander.  It incorporates the seal of the City of Miami Springs.  And it references our founder, Glenn Curtiss.

Councilman Jorge Santin asked to get some more concepts.  Mayor Mitchell asked Santin to work with the Historic Preservation Board on seeking some additional concepts.

What do you think of the sign concepts?  Which do you prefer?  Share your thoughts in the comments section below or via social media.

  1. Prefer the second one as it honors history & founding of the Springs! Would love to see the Curtiss “Jenny” somehow included too – brass likeness or whatever!? Haven’t been home for awhile to know but if there are still some of the original Pueblo’s in town it would be super nice to somehow have them designated “historic”!
