Miami Springs Police announced the arrest of Ruby Sky Ortiz (22 years old) on Thursday, December 1st. According to a report by Miami Springs Police, officers from the Miami Springs Police Department were dispatched to a call about a parked car in an alleyway on Monday, November 28. Following a records check of the vehicle, it was discovered that the car had been stolen from Polk County, Florida.
A short time later, another call was received about a white woman trying to wave down passing motorists and peering into backyards of homes. Authorities located Ortiz not far from the vehicle on Ludlam Drive. When her identity was searched, a fugitive warrant from Osceola County was found and she was safely taken into custody.
During the course of her arrest, it was discovered that Ortiz was in possession of three loaded semi-automatic handguns inside a small shoulder bag she was carrying. She lacked a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Ortiz also had the key to the stolen vehicle, and one of the firearms had been reported stolen from Highlands County. According to the police she allegedly acknowledged stealing the vehicle in Kissimmee, taking it to Miami Springs, then abandoning it after running out of gas. She added that she had bought all of the three firearms off the street.
As a result, Ruby Sky Ortiz was arrested and charged with:
- Theft of a vehicle
- Theft of a firearm
- (3) counts of illegally carrying concealed firearms

Two More Ortiz Females from Miami Springs Arrested This Week…Both in their 20s…
According to WPLG Local 10, two more young ladies (both in their twenties) were arrested this week in a separate incident. Angie Ortiz (26) and Manuela Ortiz (20) were arrested this week in connection with an illegal nightclub and drug operation out of a Westchester restaurant. According to Local 10, both young ladies were from Miami Springs. We don’t know yet if the three ladies are somehow related, but we find it highly unusual to have three Miami Springs related arrests of young ladies all sharing the same last name in the same week. You can read the WPLG story here.
For the record, we know we have many wonderful Miami Springs residents who are named Ortiz who have nothing to do with this. However, we couldn’t ignore the unusual circumstance.
Reminder: All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Everyone accused of a crime deserves their due process and day in court.
