Residents were recently asking about the heavy police activity along Dove Avenue last Saturday morning. According to the Miami Springs Police Department, they received a report of an alleged sexual assault within the 900 block of Dove Avenue.

Due to the nature of the alleged crime and in accordance with Miami Springs Police Department’s policy, the investigation was escalated to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Sexual Battery Unit.
As you might imagine, the investigation remains ongoing.
According to our sources, the alleged victim appears not to be a resident. The incident seems to have occurred at a home being used for a short term, AirBNB / VRBO style, rental.
This wouldn’t be the first time short term rentals have caused concerns for residents. Back in 2020, the City Council pushed a new ordinance that added a few rules for short term rentals. However, Florida State Law supersedes local municipal laws. And Florida Law permits the short term rentals in residential neighborhoods. So whether we like them or not, we’re stuck with these short term rentals.
We noticed a Miami Springs home in the area listed on VRBO for as much as $924 per night.
If you see suspicious or criminal behavior at a short term rental (or anywhere in Miami Springs), never hesitate to contact the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
We want to thank the Miami Springs Police Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for their prompt response to the matter.
