In the words of the legendary British comedy troupe Monty Python, And Now For Something Completely Different!
Baggo, bean bag toss, dummy boards, doghouse, dad hole, sacks, beans, bean in the hole, ramps, bean bags!
These are all names for the now popular game of corn-hole. The American Corn-hole Association (ACA) is an organization whose sole mission is to help corn-hole players enjoy the game of corn-hole. Not sure where the name originated, but in the recesses of my historic mind it
Corn-hole is a lawn game popular in North America in which players or teams take turns throwing fabric bean bags from a particular distance at a raised, angled board with a hole in its far end. The goal of the game is to score points by either landing a bag on the board (one point) or putting a bag through the hole (three points) and with this game’s popularity, there will be some spin-offs. With our American ingenuity we can devise many forms of the game. The game is fun, competitive and a real ‘hoot’ for both young and old. You don’t need too much skill; you could probably drink while playing without hurting your chances of winning and any age is competitive.
Wouldn’t you like a similar diversion that has all the challenges of golf, but one in which you don’t have to trudge through 18 holes to accomplish? This new spin off is one that employs the same kinds of methods but with a twist and it has a Miami Springs connection.
Just like golf, it involves adjusting for wind, the swing and distance, without any of golf’s dog legs. It does, however, require a dog to undertake.
Cr*p-hole is an atypical take on the original game. It involves you, your dog and how well you can aim the bag you carry to comply with local sanitary ordinances. (The one with two loops for tying). The size of the hole and the distance are two of the more important aspects of this game. I don’t know how it works in other localities because this diversion needs a specific kind of trash can which provides its unique feature. The technical aspects of this so-called sport are diverse and subject to interpretation.
When you walk your dog in one of our many open space parks and the animal has done its business, you tie the bag and toss it from a distance of at least 25 feet (Approximate distance, there are no hard and fast rules here) into the center hole of the local trash receptacle. The receptacles in Miami Springs have a cover over the entire receptacle with a narrow hole in the center. Had the trash receptacle been totally open on the top, the game would be as easy as musical chairs. You don’t need an audience, and really, some of us don’t want our neighbors to see this offshoot in person.
Cr*p-hole is most difficult to accomplish, and a master thrower (There’s no national association or set of rules) may only make even one hole in one all year. When you accomplish that feat, go out and buy a lotto ticket. It’s your lucky day!
