Congratulations to Juan Carlos Jimenez. He was selected this afternoon by the City Council as the next City Manager for the City of Miami Springs.  Next, the City of Miami Springs will negotiate with Jimenez on the terms of his employment.  Assuming all goes well with the negotiations, the City Council will then vote to approve the terms of his employment on the August 7th Special Meeting.  At that point, Jimenez will officially become the new City Manager for the City of Miami Springs.

We live streamed the selection process on Facebook.  You can watch the process for yourself in the video below.  But here’s the quick rundown:

Each Council member wrote down their preferred candidate for City Manager as number one and their second favorite candidate for City Manager as number two.  Victor Vazquez was remote, so he emailed the City Clerk in real time.

The City Clerk tallied the numbers for the first choice as follows:

  • 2 votes for Juan Carlos (JC) Jimenez (not to be confused with JC Bermudez
  • 2 votes for Chris Russo
  • 1 vote for Tammy Romero

Then, the Clerk read the results for the second choice:

  • 3 votes for JC Jimenez
  • 2 votes for Chris Russo
Two Finalists for Miami Springs City Manager: Juan Carlos Jimenez and Christopher Russo
Two Finalists for Miami Springs City Manager: Juan Carlos Jimenez and Christopher Russo

That meant that only the top two vote getters (Jimenez and Russo) remained. At that point the Mayor entertained a motion.  Councilwoman Jacky Bravo made a motion to select Chris Russo as the City Manager.  Councilman Jorge Santin seconded the motion.  However, when the vote was called, Fajet, Vazquez, and Mitchell voted no on Chris Russo.

Then, Councilman Walter Fajet made a motion to select JC Jimenez as the new City Manager.  The City Council then voted unanimously in favor of JC jimenez.

Please join us in congratulating Juan Carlos (JC) Jimenez as the next City Manager for the City of Miami Springs.  He’s taking on the role as the Chief Executive of the City of Miami Springs (similar to the role of a CEO).  Remember, the City Council acts almost like the Board of Directors with the mayor acting like the Chairman of the Board.  The City Manager, just like a CEO, reports to the City Council.  But make no mistake, the most difficult and most important job in the City of Miami Springs is the job of City Manager.

We wish Mr. Jimenez the best of luck and look forward to working with him for what will hopefully be a long time.  Let’s give JC a warm Miami Springs welcome.
