An elderly Miami Springs resident has become very frustrated with the rampant blocking of the sidewalk on Curtiss Parkway. According to the resident, patrons of a local business along Curtiss Parkway with plenty of parking space will still park the vehicle in such a way that it blocks pedestrian access through the sidewalk.
Of course, any able bodied adult can easily walk around the car on the grass. But it’s not so easy if you’re an elderly senior. It’s not easy if you have a walker or a cane.
This resident was so frustrated that they sent over photos hoping we could share them with the Miami Springs audience to promote better behavior and respect for pedestrians.
As you can see in the photo above, the vehicle is clearly blocking the sidewalk. But the important part is that there’s no reason to block the sidewalk. There was plenty of space to park the vehicle.
Folks, there’s no need for this. We have a lot of seniors who live in the area, including the former Fair Havens facility. It’s not fair to the elderly, parents walking kids on a stroller, someone walking with crutches, or even someone on a wheelchair to run into a car that’s blocking the pedestrian path on a commercial sidewalk.
Let’s do better Miami Springs.
Sidewalk blocking is not only on Curtiss Parkway. This needs to be addressed and corrected as well as overgrowth preventing passage. If there isn’t an ordinance for this there should be or enforcement if there is.
