Photo taken May 30, 1924 of the almost completed ninety foot steel bridge spanning the Miami canal at Hialeah. The bridge was painted a steel gray and special attention was given to the approaches where ornamental features could be added later. The bridge took the place of the three pontoon bridge which had been used by cars, trucks and pedestrians. It connected the business center of Hialeah with the main road on the south side in Country Club Estates leading to the municipal golf course (Miami Springs golf course)and to the shooting park, log cabin and the wells of the Miami and Miami Beach water supply. The new bridge was going to be especially a convenience to truckers, dairymen and poultry farmers south of the canal who under the pontoon system had been required to travel the south canal road to Musa Isle to reach their home at night. After being inspected the County commissioners declared it ready to open June 12th. The historic bridge is still in use today.
