Miami Springs is home to an abundant amount of wildlife.  We are home to beautiful birds like Blue Jays and Ibis.  We have native raccoons, foxes, and opossums.  We have invasive ducks and iguanas.  And we definitely have native alligators.

But one of the often overlooked local treasures is the Florida Manatee.  Jordan Buckner recently posted the following video of a small manatee swimming along the Esplanade Canal, near Miami Springs Elementary, to the Miami Springs Community Group on Facebook.  It’s a rare glimpse to see such a beautiful creature right here in the hear of Miami Springs’ internal waterways.

It also serves as a reminder that we must keep our waterways clean and free of trash to protect these beautiful and majestic creatures.

We also want to thank Jordan Buckner for capturing and sharing this footage with the community.  Great job.
