Overall Criminal Incidents
There were 50 reported incidents during the month of August in Miami Springs compared to 44 reported incidents during the month of July, or up 14% month over month.
Assault Incidents
There were 5 reported incidents of Assault during the month of August including one reported Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon that occurred on August 4th on the 600 block of East Drive. The 5 assaults in August match the same number in July.
Breaking and Entering
There were 6 reported incidents of Breaking and Entering (Burglary) in August compared to 4 in July. All 6 August burglary incidents were in non-residential areas compared to one residential break-in during the month of July. Five out of the six burglary incidents occurred along the LeJuene Road corridor of the city. One burglary incident occurred on the 200 block of Westward Drive. (Ironically, that’s the same block as City Hall.)
Drugs
There were two narcotics violations during the month of August compared to one incident in the month of August.
Theft
There were 13 incidents of theft in August compared to 11 in July. There were 5 incidents of theft of an automotive accessory (same as July), 2 incidents of theft from building (same as July), 3 incidents of “Theft Other” (1 more than July), and 2 incidents classified as UNF INCIDENT.
Vehicle Break-Ins
There were 17 vehicle break-in incidents in August compared to 13 in July or up 31%. This is consistently the #1 reported criminal incident within the city of Miami Springs. 65% of the vehicle break-ins were along NW 36th Street or along LeJeune Road.
Stolen Vehicles
Stolen vehicle incidents were down 29% in August compared to July with 5 reported vehicles stolen in August.
