John Robert Johnson, fondly known as Bob, left us too young on June 3, 2024, at the age of 68. A man known for his vivacious spirit and undying love for his family, he was born on October 20, 1955 and adored by his parents John & Francis Johnson. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
After graduating from high school, Bob attended and graduated from George T. Baker Aviation Technical College, hoping to build a career as an aviation mechanic. However, his plans were derailed by the airline industry crisis but he continued to have a passion for aviation throughout his life. In 1975, Bob embarked on a journey to entrepreneurship and began working with his father, becoming the driving force behind Johnson & Burton Pest Control. Bob’s great determination and leadership led to the successful growth of this family business. It also allowed him to visit and socialize with his clients who he considered friends.
Bob was an enthusiastic boater and his sense of adventure and love for the water made him a regular face at local spots like the Caribbean Club and The Big Chill. He enjoyed fishing, shrimping and catching lobster with his friends and his “happy place” was Key Largo, FL, where the Johnson’s owned a second home. Bob was fondly known as the Mayor of Key Largo Kampground and for making friends with new residents and guests, taking them for boat rides to show them the local sites.
In 1989, Bob shared his vows with the love of his life, Kate Johnson. This union was blessed with the addition of their beloved son, Nicholas Johnson, in 1991. Both wife, Kate, and son, Nicholas, survive Bob and continue to honor his memory.
Bob was the embodiment of many wonderful qualities- friendly, generous, witty, playful, fun-loving, and a trickster in moments of levity. His mantra “There’s no place like home” served as a reminder of his deep-seated value of family and friendship. His greatest accomplishments were the growth of his business Johnson & Burton and the upbringing of his beloved son Nicholas. Both served as a testament to his dedication and love. Bob’s joyful spirit will be missed tremendously by all, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of his life will be held on June 30, 2024 at 2pm at the Miami Springs Country Club, 650 Curtiss Parkway where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate the exceptional life of this beloved man.
