Miami Springs woke up to debris laden streets, knocked over recycling bins, and parts of Miami Springs underwater.  While most of Miami Springs was fine, the area of Oakwood Drive and Forrest Drive was completely impassible due to high water.

We drove along Oakwood Drive this morning. We stopped when we noticed the truck’s running boards were underwater. That’s nearly 12 inches above the ground. Now, we know the truck’s intake was still significantly higher, but why put things like starter motors underwater? So we backed off and reversed out of the roadway. You can see the video below:

Forrest Drive was pretty bad and had barricades in place to prevent drivers from getting stuck in the water.

We also noticed some vehicles with water above their wheels parked in the swales.

Other flood prone areas like Stafford Park was completely underwater.  There was even severe ponding along East Drive.  The entire parking lot at AIE was underwater.

The good news is that the rain had moved offshore.  Furthermore, prior to the deluge, it had been pretty dry.  That means the ground had not been saturated.  So we should see much of the flooding receding throughout the day.
