If your trash and garbage bags are still sitting in an overflowing container, you’re not alone.  The City of Miami Springs didn’t skip your street or forget about you.  The issue has impacted most of the city residents.

Here’s what’s going on:  One – The City of Miami Springs ordered two new custom trash trucks that fit in our small alleyways back in 2021.  Due to the supply chain issues, these trucks have yet to be delivered from the manufacturer and are still being manufactured.

So with the delays in receiving the new trucks, that means our current trucks have had to last longer than originally anticipated.  That also means they break down.  Now, when one truck breaks down, it’s not the end of the world, but this week, we’ve had two trucks break down.

Of course, this is ‘Merica!  Go out and get another truck.  Well, these are custom trucks.  It’s not like these trucks are available for rent from your local AVIS rent-a-car or sitting on the lot at Palmetto Ford Trucks.  As we stated, these new trucks were ordered back in 2021, but have yet to be completed.

The good news is this.  According to JC Jimenez, our new City Manager, one of the trucks that broke down is back in operation.  Public Works is working to have all the trash picked up by no later than this Saturday.

So yes.  Trash pileups are bad.  No.  It’s not your fault.  You didn’t forget to pay the bill.

No.  Public Works is not on strike.

In a small city such as ours, two Public Works trucks out of commission really does hurt.  Nevertheless, one of the trucks is back online and the City Manager expects all the trash to be picked up no later than this Saturday.

We want to thank JC Jimenez for his openness and transparency in this situation.
