Folks, the first month of January is coming to a close. Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away. Oh, and there are just two weeks left to qualify to run for the Miami Springs City Council.
Our City Council is only as good as the residents who decide to join and participate in the process. We need great people who care for our city to sacrifice some of their time and talent to run for office. But time is running out. The last day to qualify is Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th.
So far, here are the candidates that have qualified to run for office. Will you add your name to this list?
Mayor
Current Mayor, Maria Mitchell, has termed out. Current Councilman and Principal at AIE Charter School, Dr. Walter Fajet, is running for mayor of Miami Springs. Former councilman, Bob Best, is also running for mayor.

Group II
Jacky Bravo announced late last year that she was pregnant with a child on the way and decided not to run for re-election. Joseph Dion is the only candidate that has qualified to run for the Group II seat.

Group III
Orlando Lamas ran for City Council two years ago against Jorge Santin. This time Lamas is running for the open Group III seat currently held by Councilman Fajet. Again, Fajet is running for Mayor.

Group IV
Group IV is currently held by Victor Vazquez who decided not to run for re-election. So far, we have two candidates vying for this seat. Fabian Perez-Crespo and Tom Hutchings. Hutchings ran for this seat two years ago and narrowly lost to Victor Vazquez by just 20 votes.
