Miami Springs Police Chief, Armando Guzman, has shared news of the arrested of the alleged bank robber of the Miami Springs Wells Fargo last week.

“As you already are aware, on Monday June 3, 2019, Miami Springs branch of Wells Fargo was robbed by a subject with a note containing a bomb threat. On Thursday June 6, 2019, the Long Island New York Cedarhurst’s Wells Fargo branch had a similar robbery with the same subject. The subject presented a note to the teller demanding $5000 or he would detonate a bomb and many people would die. The teller gave him $5850 and he fled the bank on foot.  The subject was located a short distance away (approx.1 mile) in North Lawrence, NY where he was identified using a show up and taken into custody. 

The subject is Michael Shawky-Mikhail, 04/22/1986. An Egyptian born male, who gave a Quebec, Canada home address. See attached photo.

The FBI advised they are obtaining a warrant to have the subject returned to Florida to face charges here.”

The FBI had issued the following release last week after the robbery:

The FBI is seeking information from a bank robbery that took place June 3, 2019, at approximately 8:54 a.m. at a Wells Fargo located at 4299 NW 36th Street, Miami Springs, Florida.

A robber entered the bank, advised he had an explosive device, and demanded money from a bank employee. There were no injuries. The amount of money taken will not be released at this time.
