Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum visited Miami Springs Middle on Thursday, September 6th to discuss Cyber Safety. His goal is to provide parents and children with the knowledge and tools they need to ward off sexual predators.

With more and more children using computers for homework, games, and chatting with friends, they are within a click’s distance to an online sexual predator.

“Our goal is to provide a comprehensive online personal safety program for all students in Florida and empower them to recognize, avoid and report instances of predators attempting to exploit them through the Internet,” said Attorney General Bill McCollum. “As technology continues to evolve and have a more significant role in our children’s lives, we must take every precaution to keep them safe. That process begins with education and outreach.”

The Attorney General has setup a website called Safe Surf Florida (http://www.safeflorida.net/safesurf) where kids and parents can learn more about Cyber Safety and even report an online sexual predator. Of course, if you need immediate assistance, please contact the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
