Guess who’s back. Back again.
Springs is back, tell a friend.
Guess who’s back, guess who’s back?
Guess who’s back, guess who’s back?
Guess who’s back, guess who’s back?
Guess who’s back?
Enough with the Eminem references…Your Miami Springs Senior High Marching Band is Back. Back again! After a long hiatus, the marching band is back with full uniforms, great music equipment, and most importantly, wonderful student musicians that have joined the band.
The Golden Hawks Marching Band performed at the last football game of the season vs South Miami Senior High last Thursday, and it also happened to be the Cobras’ Homecoming game. Funny enough, we were seated directly across the stadium from their historic, award-winning band at their Magnet School of the Arts, which, like us, was also in uniform and consisted of about 25 performing members. Most of the students in our 3-month old band program had never seen another high school band before.
We have been practicing 3x per week after school since August 1, and this was one of our last events of the marching season. The kids know about 10-12 tunes by memory now and just finished learning “Gonna Fly Now” (the theme from Rocky). We warmed-up after school all afternoon and tuned up every drum before the game. The horns are also all starting to play with very full sounds.

By the end of the game, each of the kids looked and sounded like like they had beams of light shooting out of their instruments and into the beautiful stadium at Tropical Park. We were lucky enough to have a number of Miami Springs alumni with us as well that night. Once A Hawk, Always A Hawk!

Both the marching band and newly-formed cheerleading team sang songs, including “Don’t Stop Believing” and “We Are The Champions” on the bus ride home for 30 minutes with the windows down. Many of us lost our voices. There were a number of cars slowing down on the interstate and pulling up next to us to film us celebrating together on the bus. We have all gotten to know each other very well throughout this season, and a few seniors were in tears that night. I think we could have stayed all night long and played until school started the next morning.
