Yvonne, born in Chicago IL, moved with her family at a young age to Miami Springs, where they made their home. She started her life-long career of health care as an EKG technician at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was inspired by the science in saving lives. She advanced to a Phlebotomist and then followed the blood into the clinical laboratory and became a Laboratory Technician. She advanced through education and hard work to become a Lab Manager. She became a Registered Nurse and travelled through the nursing profession at several local hospitals, and ended her career with retirement from the Miami Jewish Home as the infection Control Supervisor.
Even in her retirement, she provided Parish Nursing care via her life-long church, Grace Lutheran. Here, she recently held a position on the Church Council Board of Directors. She was active in historical preservation, being a former Miami Springs Historical Society President and Museum Director and served on the Historical Preservation Board.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of over 50 years, M. Frank Shonberger, sister Valerie, two daughters Laury, Sarah, five grandchildren Sydney, Jacob, Violette, Scarlett and Olive.
Yvonne loved to dance, and many in the community will remember her and her husband on the dance floor at many Springs venues.
Yvonne’s Memorial will be held at Grace Lutheran Oct. 6, 6pm Fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
