Welcome back to the diamond, Hawks fans! The 2026 FHSAA baseball playoffs are officially in full swing, and the Miami Springs Golden Hawks are proving exactly why they currently wear the crown.

Entering this season as the defending Class 3A State Champions carried a heavy burden, especially after graduating a massive chunk of last year’s veteran core. But Coach Corey Estrada’s squad has silenced the doubters. After navigating a grueling regular season designed to stress-test the roster, they are catching fire exactly when it matters most: the pressure cooker of May.

The Kids Are Alright
Instead of a traditional, multi-year rebuild, Miami Springs hit the fast-forward button. The overwhelming majority of the Hawks’ production this year is coming from underclassmen—specifically the graduating classes of 2027 and 2028. We’re talking freshmen and sophomores stepping into premium leverage situations and absolutely thriving.
While anchored defensively by veteran upperclassman shortstop Yordan Torres, the offense has been hijacked by youth. Young sluggers like Adrian Henriquez, Taylor Ancheta, and freshman standout catcher Kristopher Mederos have taken the reins, adapting to the varsity speed with remarkable poise.

Sweeping the Knights
The Hawks recently proved their playoff mettle in the Region 3A-4 Semifinals against a highly capable iMater Charter Knights squad. The newly mandated best-of-three regional format is a true test of pitching depth, and Miami Springs passed with flying colors on the road.
Game 1 was an absolute pulse-pounder. Under intense pressure, starter Franco Enriquez delivered a clutch 4.2 innings, tallying a career-high 7 strikeouts. Adrian Henriquez played hero at the plate, launching a clutch home run and racking up 4 RBIs to secure a narrow 6-5 victory.
Game 2 was a totally different story—a pure offensive onslaught. The Hawks jumped out early and never looked back. Taylor Ancheta blasted a massive three-run homer, and Mederos added a two-run shot to cruise to a 7-2 series-clinching sweep. Reliever Damian Villabrille was untouchable, striking out four over two perfect innings to shut the door.
Series MVP Scorecard: Golden Hawks vs. iMater Knights

Next up? A highly anticipated Regional Final clash against the Gulliver Prep Raiders. The Hawks will host this best-of-three series starting Friday, May 8th.
This is the ultimate revenge series. Gulliver Prep handed Miami Springs a 6-1 loss back in the opening week of the regular season. But as any baseball purist knows, May baseball is a totally different beast than February baseball. Gulliver is rolling, coming off a 7-4 win over Monsignor Pace and bringing a lineup that’s averaging over 8 runs a game. It’s going to be a heavy-weight bout.

The Road to Fort Myers
If Miami Springs can leverage their home-field advantage, lean on their superior power hitting (.520 slugging percentage!), and continue getting lights-out performances from Enriquez and Villabrille on the mound, a return trip to Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers for the State Championships is well within reach.
Buckle up, Hawks fans. The underclassmen are growing up fast, and they look incredibly hungry for another ring!
NEXT GAME:
The Miami Springs Senior High Golden Hawks (17-10-1) take on the Gulliver Prep Raiders (18-11) at Gulliver Prep this Friday, May 8th at 4pm.
Let’s go Hawks!
