According to the MIami Herald, a 30 year old male driver fell asleep at the wheel this morning as he entered Miami Springs from Medley on Royal Poinciana Boulevard (Near Ludlam Ave). The man was able to get out of the car and is apparently fine. However, his 2007 Audi was submerged in the Miami Canal.

Ironically, the accident occurred in the same area where a woman lost her life after driving into the canal last December.

This area has gone years without incident, but after 2 cars drive into the same area within 7 months (one of them fatally) the City may need to look at barrier options. This may include trees, concrete barricades, aluminum guard rails, or other barriers that would help prevent cars from ending up in the canal.
