Miami Springs’ Fair Havens assisted living facility has now recorded 28 resident fatalities from COVID-19. According to the Florida Department of State, Fair Havens has the highest number of fatalities in the entire State of Florida.
As we reported earlier this week, 134 elderly residents have contracted the virus at the facility. There have also been 42 staff members who contracted the virus. Fortunately, none of the employees have died from the virus. But 21% of the residents who’ve tested positive for the virus have died.
After the situation exploded at Fair Havens, the state issued an emergency moratorium preventing the admission of any new residents to the facility. Furthermore, all positive residents were transferred out of the facility and to local hospitals.
Do we have information on what the average 3 month fatality rate is for this nursing home? The Coronavirus could have been a facilitator to an already expected death rate in a nursing home that provides hospice and palliative care. Have any deaths apart from those deemed related to Covid-19 been presented?
