It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that former Miami Springs Officer and Detective, Edward Jeffrey Steel (“Jeff”) has passed away. His unwavering involvement in and dedication to our community has left an everlasting mark on Miami Springs and dates back to his start in our department.

In 1987, Jeff finished a 3-year stint in the Peace Corps, moved to Miami, and started working as an electrician. A couple of years later he was sponsored through the Police Academy by Virginia Gardens and shortly thereafter was hired by Miami Springs PD. Jeff was an excellent officer, frequently leading the Department in stats.  After a few years he was assigned to the Detective Bureau and proved to be a relentless investigator.  Because of his investigative skills he was assigned to a Federal Money Laundering Task Force, where he finished his 20-year career with MSPD.
