Miami Springs Senior High Class of 1992 Alum and former Miami-Dade County School Board Member, Lubby Navarro, was arrested today. She was charged with grand theft. She is being accused of using school board funds for personal purchases.
Navarro was a star student at Miami Springs Senior High where she was the class president for the class of 1992.
The charges against Ms. Navarro are extremely serious. Of course, in our system of justice, she is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Personally, I feel saddened by this arrest. Lubby was a high school friend and I had admired her public career.
If the allegations are true, it’s a sad day for all of us. Her alleged personal enrichment took money away from teachers and students. Public corruption hurts the public’s trust in our institutions.
That being said, it appears that the school board credit card system has holes in its checks and balances. We are certain that changes will be coming to strengthen this process over time.
