The beloved “All Angels Academy” will be closing in January, 2022. The school has operated in Miami Springs for decades and has taught countless children throughout the years.
“We are broken hearted…and wish things could be different” – Mother Kimberly, All Angels
The school has long been established as a Pre-K through Middle School. All Angels Academy is part of the Episcopal Church and has been dedicated to a singular educational philosophy: “To develop the whole child by challenging the mind and nourishing the spirit in a diverse community guided by Christian principles.”
All Angels has been working with the principals, pastors, and priests of the local churches and schools to support All Angels during this difficult time including Grace Lutheran, Faith Lutheran, 7th Day Adventist, Blessed Trinity, ISAAC Academy, and World Children’s Academy. Mother Kimberly from All Angels was very grateful to the help and support from the local churches and schools. She said, “I am also grateful for the way they worked with our families in finding a new school community to accept, teach, and love them for all they have to offer.”
The school will officially close on Saturday, January 22, 2022. The final day of class will be Friday, January 21, 2022.
The church will continue to hold services in Spanish on Saturdays at 6 pm and Sundays in English at 10:30 am
As for the school property, it “will remain owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida . We are currently looking for renters of the 11 classrooms, library, and school office.”
We asked Mother Kimberly if the faculty would be re-assigned to another school or church. Here’s what she said:
“No, unlike other denominations, the Episcopal church does not assign it’s priests or employees to their positions. I will be looking for a new job as well; searching, applying, interviewing, etc.
As for the teachers, I’ve spoken with the teachers and local schools to help them find new positions. Those that are in need of teachers or may be in the position to hire teachers (depending on the number of our students that transfer over to them), have been introduced to each other already. Some have already had interviews, others are considering their options. All are guaranteed a paycheck until the 22 of January or until they start a new job… Whichever comes first. Faculty and families have 12 weeks in which they can search and consider their options for new schools.”
Here’s a letter that want out to parents explaining the situation:
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Serving as Head of School of All Angels Academy has been one of the most rewarding roles I have held in my lifetime. Seeing our children dream bigger, smile brighter, and learn in a diverse community guided by Christian values is one of the greatest gifts imaginable. Unfortunately, this past year has brought on new and unexpected challenges that have had an unrecoverable impact on All Angels.
As you may be aware, many industries, including education, are feeling the unfortunate consequences of the nationwide labor shortage. All Angels has not been immune to this and keeping the school fully staffed has been a challenge we have sadly been unable to overcome, despite exhausting our best efforts to do so.
As a result, it is with a heavy heart that I announce we will be closing All Angels Academy on Saturday 22 January 2022; which is the end of the 2nd Quarter. While this decision was not an easy one, it was the only viable decision to safeguard the future of your child’s education. A fiscally sound school that is sustainable for years to come is necessary to ensuring that future is a bright one.
Over the next few months, I am committed to doing all that I can to assist you and your family through the transition process. I have conducted extensive outreach to schools in our area that offer a similar learning experience to All Angels. I hope you will sign up for a private planning session with me to discuss alternative school options for your child. These sessions, which may be held in-person or via phone, will occur beginning Monday 8 November 2021. Please take a moment to sign up for the day and time that works best for your schedule.
My goal is to have a transition plan in place for every family prior to Tuesday 30 November 2021. The schools listed below currently have enrollment capabilities. Many will waive their registration fees, and all accept students who are receiving Florida Choice Scholarships.
- Grace Lutheran Preschool – Infant through VPK (Miami Springs)
- 7th Day Adventist School – VPK through grade 8 (Miami Springs)
- Blessed Trinity Catholic School – PreK3 through grade 8 (Miami Springs)
- Faith Lutheran – Preschool through grade 8 (Hialeah)
During your private planning session, I will review these options with you in more detail, answer any questions you may have, and assist you with future outreach efforts to the school of your choice. My goal is to be a resource for you over the next few months and do all that I can to help ensure your child and family has the smoothest transition possible.
In closing, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of the All Angels family. Our school community is one that I will miss more than words can describe and I hope to remain connected to your child and family for many years to come.
Faithfully,
The Rev. Kimberly Knight
